This year, for the third year in a row the DIA committee conferred the Design Intelligence Award – the highest endowed design prize worldwide – for exceptional works with the assistance of the China Academy of Art. As a member of the illustrious expert jury with representatives from France, China, Germany and India, among others, Christian Schwamkrug, the design director of Studio F. A. Porsche, was invited to the gala and awards ceremony in May 2018. “The Design Intelligence Award is a very serious and highly professional event lasting several days. The exclusiveness of this ceremony, with its painstaking preparation and work, speaks for itself”, said Christian Schwamkrug. The award recognises excellent design projects in the area of social and industrial innovations with up to US$ 130,000.
This year the award focused on the modernisation of traditional industry sectors, the development of intelligent production processes and solutions for an increasingly ageing society. Participants from around the world competed for this illustrious award, including large corporations such as Sony and Toyota. From Germany, Loewe and Bulthaup were among the participants. The winner in the “Gold” category was a robotic parking assistance system for cars, as well as a project to optimise efficiency in the area of high-speed trains for public transport. A total of 42 projects from 13 countries were recognised by the Design Intelligence Award this year, with a total value of 1.03 million US dollars.
